Réamhrá do Chúirt an Mheán OícheAn Introduction to The Midnight Court
An t-Eagrán Seo den DánThe Current Version of the Poem
Cúirt an Mheán Oíche:
Bhíodh sé mar nós ag eagarthóirí Cúirt an Mheán Oíche a leagadh amach mar dán le ceithre pháirt ann. Aithnítear, áfach, gur dán cúig-pháirteach i ndáiríre atá ann—an oscailt, an dúnadh agus díospóireacht thrí-pháirteach eatarthu. Is ar an dóigh sin atá sé leagtha amach agamsa anseo:
I. An Oscailt (25K)
An Plé:
II. An Ainnir (38K)
III. An Seanfhear (50K)
IV. An Ainnir Arís (37K)
V. An Breithiúnas is an Réiteach (31K)
The Midnight Court:
The traditional practice is to divide The Midnight Court into four parts. However, most commentators recognize that the poem naturally divides into five—an opening, a closing and a three-part debate in between. This is the layout I have adopted here:
I. The Opening (25K)
The Debate:
II. The Young Woman (38K)
III. The Old Man (50K)
IV. The Young Woman Again (37K)
V. The Judgment and Resolution (31K)
Leagan ré-chaighdeánach de Chúirt an Mheadhon Oidhche. Is dócha gur ar an dóigh seo a scríobh Merriman an dán i dtús báire. Pre-standardized version of The Midnight Court. This is basically the language that Merriman would have used.
